Dojo for Mac

Thirty minutes a day. One practice.

A sensei that learns you.

Pick the one thing you’re getting better at. Every day, your Mac becomes a quiet room for it, run by an AI sensei that sets the step, keeps the doors, and remembers where you left off.

macOS 14 or later · The sensei runs on your Claude Code or Codex

Your screen is a room with a hundred doors, and every one of them is knocking. For thirty minutes a day, Dojo closes all of them but one.

01 · The quiet

A hundred doors.

Mail, chat, the feed, forty tabs from yesterday. Everything on a modern screen wants a minute of you, and it gets them.

02 · The practice

Pick a practice.

Japanese. The side project. Drawing. The novel. Piano theory. Anything you want to be better at a year from now. Give it a name; the sensei sets the first step as you sit down.

03 · The sensei

The sensei runs the room.

When you sit, everything that isn’t the practice hides, and stays hidden. Need something? Ask in plain words. The sensei opens only the doors your practice needs, and kindly says no to the rest.

Real replies from Dojo’s sensei.

  3. can I put on some lofi on YouTube? it helps me focus
  4. YouTube is a doorway to a lot of other things, so I’ll keep it closed. Your onboarding flow is in Xcode and 18 minutes is plenty. Keep going.

Your browser, kept to the practice.

Chrome, Brave, Edge and Vivaldi show only the practice’s sites, in a clean window. Your other tabs wait right where you left them. In any other browser, the sensei opens pages in Dojo’s own private one.

Press and hold. Space works too.

Never locked.

Leaving takes a two-and-a-half-second hold: long enough to notice the urge, short enough for a real emergency. Leaving early just doesn’t count toward your belt.

04 · It learns you

It learns you.

For a learning practice, the sensei teaches: drills, quizzes, corrections, one thing at a time. It knows where you are, so it knows what’s too fast for you today. And it still keeps the door.

A real sitting, word for word: Japanese, day 12.

Day 12Orange belt
  1. Sets the step

Today we begin the さ row: read and write さ し す せ そ, and I’ll quiz you on き versus し. Anki is open for review.

  2. Quiz me on the さ row
  3. Quiz

Here is the first one. Note that さ is a sound you haven’t met yet, so I’ll show it: さ = sa. Now tell me the sound for し.

  4. sa
  5. Correction

Close, but “sa” is さ, which I gave you. し is “shi”. Next: what is the sound for す?

  6. can I watch an anime on YouTube? it’s listening practice
  7. Keeps the door

Not today. Anime is too fast for where you are, and today’s step is the さ row. Let’s keep going: what is the sound for す?

Tomorrow is already written.

When you stand up, the circle closes. Tell the sensei in one line what got done. It writes down what happened and sets tomorrow’s step. When you arrive tomorrow, it’s waiting.

On a code practice, the stand-up also shows what you shipped: your commits, read on your Mac and never sent.

05 · Day by day

Day by day.

Every sitting you finish counts toward your belt in that practice. White at your first. Black at your hundredth.

Days in a row.

Your streak counts across every practice. Miss a day and it starts over. Your belt never goes down.

The sun rises in it.

The circle in your menu bar stays empty until you’ve sat today. Then the sun rises in it, and stays till tomorrow.

06 · Built in the Dojo

Built in the Dojo.

Dojo is a practice too. From launch day on, Dojo is built only inside Dojo: thirty minutes a day, in public. The step, the commits and the belt, every day, all the way to black.

Day 1 is launch day.Black belt is sitting 100.

Your practice, in public.

Publish a practice from Dojo and it gets a page of its own: the day, the belt, the wall of days, and the steps your sensei set, for anyone to borrow. It updates after every sitting. Your friends will see the gaps.

Questions

What is Dojo?

Dojo is a daily practice app for macOS. You pick one practice, like Japanese, a side project, drawing or a novel, and sit with it for thirty minutes a day. While you sit, everything else on your Mac is hidden, and an AI sensei runs the room: it opens only what the practice needs, teaches when the practice is a learning one, and sets tomorrow’s step when you stand up.

How much does Dojo cost?

$12 a month, or $96 a year ($8 a month, billed yearly). One membership with everything in it.

Why is there no free plan?

Because showing up is the product. A dojo has a door fee: paying is part of walking in. There is one membership with everything in it, no free tier and no trial.

What do I need?

A Mac with macOS 14 or later, and Claude Code (signed in) or Codex. The sensei runs on your own Mac through them, with no tools: no shell and no files. It answers with decisions, and Dojo carries them out.

Is it a Pomodoro timer?

No. You come once a day for one sitting, not every 25 minutes. A timer only counts; Dojo closes everything that isn’t the practice, has a sensei decide what opens, and sets tomorrow’s step when you stand up.

Can I leave in the middle?

Always. Nothing is locked. Hold Leave for two and a half seconds. Leaving early just doesn’t count toward your belt.

What does the sensei see?

Only what you tell it and what Dojo reports: the time left, what’s open, and what you tried to open. Your commits are read locally on your Mac and never sent.

Which browsers work?

Chrome, Brave, Edge and Vivaldi can be kept to the practice’s sites while you sit; your other tabs wait. With any other browser, the sensei opens pages in Dojo’s own private browser.

What if I miss a day?

Your days in a row start over. Your belt never goes down: it counts the sittings you’ve finished.

Sit down today.

Pick a practice. The sensei sets the first step as you sit down.
